Closed-Loop Recycling

What really sets us apart from all the others is our closed-loop recycling process. We are the only beverage company in North America operating our own recycling facility, self-manufacturing our bottles from 100%, recycled, post-consumer packaging.

Closed-loop recycling is central to what we do at Ice River. Watch the process below in our explainer video.

The journey of our Ice River green bottle starts with you. Simply toss a beverage container into your blue bin and leave the rest to us!

We collect a whopping 85% of PET recycled material that comes in from Ontario’s Blue Box system.

We buy blue bin material from municipalities which is purchased in bales which get separated and sorted.

We then grind the sorted plastic into flakes, wash and purify them. We end up with different colours of food grade plastic pellets that we use to make new containers.

Filled with our clear refreshing Ice River spring water, our new bottles are ready to be enjoyed, recycled and returned to our facility in a never-ending loop.

Plastic labels and bottle caps are removed during sorting and sent to a partner company who make them into beautiful sturdy outdoor furniture, known as “Captiva Furniture”.(Adirondack & Muskoka Chairs).

Together we’ve kept 350 million pounds of plastic diverted from landfill

Zero-Waste-to-Landfill

Ice River’s water bottling facilities are proudly zero-waste-to landfill. Our philosophy encourages the redesign of packaging life cycles, so that all products are reused, recycled, or avoided, and nothing goes to landfill.

You’ll find us near sources of pristine spring water.
