Mountain Life is a magazine covering the Blue Mountain area of Ontario, which is just north of the Ice River Springs’ recycling operation in Shelburne. In the Spring 2017 edition there is an article titled “Your Blue Box in Action” that recounts the history and explains the reasons for our PET recycling operation.
“We were told at the time that it would be impossible to make a 100 percent recycled PET bottle,” explains Crystal Howe (Gott), Ice River Springs’ Sustainability Manager, “but after three years of perseverance and slowly increasing our recycled content in the bottle our team finally got it!”
“We encourage schools and clubs to visit our Shelburne facility to see the process as well as encouraging members of our team to educate their communities and families.”
There is also an advertisement in the magazine that sums up key points:
- Together we kept thousands of tons of plastic out of Ontario landfills in 2016.
- Our bottle-to-bottle recycling innovation is the first of its kind in North America.
- This locally developed process requires 78% less energy than using new plastic.
Keep on recycling Ontario!
