Ice River Springs is pleased to announce continued funding of The Master’s Scholarship for Sustainability program. This is the second year for the scholarship that is managed by The Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF).
The scholarship is open to master’s students enrolled in full-time programs in Canadian and US academic institutions. We are hoping to attract environmental scientist whose research relates to recycling, with preference given to applicants exploring the recyclability of plastics, plastic bottles and/or PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic.
“The Ice River Springs Master’s Scholarship for Sustainability was created to promote recycling, reduce the amount of material being landfilled and decrease the carbon footprint by emphasizing plastics recycling,” said Sandy Gott, Executive Vice President and Co-owner at Ice River Springs. “EREF funds the scientific research behind the technology that can make a true environmental impact, fitting our corporate values.”
In 2016 Jillian Treadwell, who is a student at McGill University in the department of Bioresource Engineering, was the first recipient of the scholarship. Treadwell’s research project Driving factors for organic waste and phosphorus recycling: a quantitative analysis and scenario based model, as she explains, aims to “…explore how we can do a better job of recycling phosphorus, so that we can minimize the environmental burdens of mining and depleting a non-renewable resource, while also addressing aquatic pollution associated with phosphorus.”
Interested applicants should complete the online EREF scholarship application available at www.erefdn.org. The 2017 EREF scholarship deadline is May 3, 2017 at 5:00 pm (eastern).
All applications must be completed by this deadline. Any incomplete applications as of the deadline will not be considered. Notifications regarding award status will be sent mid to late August.
Scholarship awards will begin in September 2017. As a result, students graduating in December 2017 are ineligible to apply.
