AODA Policy

1. Purpose
This policy sets out accessibility standards of Ice River Springs in providing accessibility to people with disabilities in Ontario.

2. Commitment
The Company strives at all times to provide its accessibility in a way that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities. It is committed to giving people with disabilities the same opportunity to access the Company and allowing them to benefit from the same accessibility, in the same place and in a similar way as other people.

In working towards its goals under this Policy, Ice River Springs is committed to becoming an obstacle free environment, and will continue to do the following in accordance with provincial legal requirements:

  • identify and remove identified obstacles,
  • prevent obstacles
  • increase awareness of accessibility
  • promote compliance policies and procedures with respect to accessibility to our staff and others
  • provide appropriate training to our employees who deal with people or other third parties on behalf of Ice River Springs, with a view to ensure greater awareness and responsiveness to the needs of those with disabilities.

An obstacle is anything that prevents a person with a disability from fully taking part in participating because of that disability. Some obstacles include:

  • Physical
  • Architectural
  • Information or communication
  • Attitudinal
  • Technological
  • Policies or practices

3. Existing Legislation
This Policy has taken into consideration our obligations under Canadian laws, including Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR). As legislation changes and develops, Ice River Springs will review and amend its policies, practices and procedures, as necessary.

4. Service Animals
Allow people with disabilities to be accompanied by their guide dog or service animal in our reception areas.

5. Support People
Permit people with disabilities who use a support person to bring that person with them.

6. Accessibility Standard for Employment
a) Hiring and Selection Process
This policy sets out standards in providing information regarding the hiring and selection process as it would relate to anyone with a disability who would apply for a position at Ice River Springs.

Ice River Springs welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.

During the hiring process, all job applicants when they are selected for an interview will be provided accommodation based on their disability.

For applicants or successful candidates requesting an accommodation, Ice River Springs will discuss their needs with them and make adjustments to support them.

When making offers of employment, Ice River Springs will notify successful applicants of our policies for accommodating employees with disabilities.

b) Informing Employees of Supports
We will notify our employees of Ice River Springs policies (and any updates where there is a change to those policies) for supporting employees with disabilities, including our policies regarding the provision of job accommodations that take into account an employee's accessibility needs due to disability. This information will be provided to new hires as soon as practicable after they commence employment.

c) Communication Supports for Employees
If an employee with a disability asks for information in an accessible format or to receive communication supports, Ice River Springs will consult with the employee to provide or arrange for the provision of accessible formats and communication supports for information that the employee needs to perform his/her job, as well as information that is generally available to other employees.

d) Individual Accommodation Plans
Ice River Springs will develop and maintain a written process for the development of documented individual accommodation plans for employees with disabilities.

e) Workplace Emergency Response Information
As an employer, Ice River Springs wants to keep our employees safe, especially in emergencies. Under the standard, Ontario's Accessibility Standard for Employment if we have employees with disabilities we will provide individualized emergency response information to them at orientation or whenever the circumstances may change that may lead to a disability.

This includes making our emergency information accessible, or developing a plan to help an employee with a disability during an emergency.

Review the employee's emergency response information when:

  • The employee changes work locations
  • When reviewing the employee's overall accommodation needs
  • When reviewing our organization's general emergency response policies.

Disabilities can be permanent, or temporary.

Note: Our facilities are privately owned so through liability, food and beverage requirements are restricted from public access and may only be entered through prior appointments with permission from executive management.
